The Sandhill Crane fall migration must have been running later than usual in 2006, for John and Beth traveled all over the Gainesville, FL area looking for the birds where they usually overwinter without luck before finding a trio (probably of residents rather than migrants) hanging out in a rural driveway in Micanopee, FL.
